THE PERFECT GIFT

BY PASTOR CHARLES RICKS, JR.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” — Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV)

Each year toward the end of October, my wife sends out a message to our family asking us to prepare our Christmas Gift Wish List. The list is divided into three categories: Love to Have, Nice to Have, and Wildest Desire, but Probably Won’t Get. Over the years, we’ve had a lot of fun reading everyone’s responses, and, of course, making some of their wishes come true.

It gives us all joy to be able to make our family’s dreams come true at Christmas. But aside from the gifts that we may give to each other, the greatest gift that has ever been given is Jesus. Jesus, the Reason for the Season is cliché, yet it is so very true. Through GRACE, we receive the perfect GIFT of Jesus. Holman’s Bible Dictionary defines grace as “the undeserved acceptance and love received from another, especially the characteristic attitude of God in providing salvation for sinners.” By grace, the perfect gift of salvation comes to us from a Good God. We don’t deserve it. We could never earn it. And no matter how hard we try, we could never pay it back.

Salvation is available to all mankind through faith in Jesus Christ. That, my friend, is not your doing, it is a gift of God.

Have you received your perfect gift? You don’t have to wait until Christmas. The perfect gift of salvation is available to you right now. Just ask and receive.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I confess that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I believe that You are my Savior and I invite You into my heart. Forgive me of all my sins and make me new. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
