BEING OBEDIENT IN DIFFICULT TIMES
BY PASTOR RON DEBERRY
Scripture Readings: Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-24
Have you ever had to walk in obedience to the Lord’s instructions in spite of how the world would judge you?
Mary and Joseph were both in a “bad” situation from the world’s perspective! Here is Mary, a young, unwed mother-to-be; and here is Joseph, betrothed to a young girl who is with child that is not his. While in today’s society it may not be so unusual; in Mary and Joseph’s day it was devastating. Mary questions how this could be and Joseph decides to get out of the engagement. BUT GOD! He sends angels to deliver His message to His obedient children. Mary is told her pregnancy is from the Holy Spirit for the purpose of bringing forth the Son of God, the long awaited Messiah. After the messenger from God (the angel) spoke, Mary affirms that she is the Lord’s servant and let it be done unto her. Joseph is visited by an angel who explains that Mary’s pregnancy is of the Holy Spirit and that the Son she carries will save people from their sins. After the messenger from God (the angel) spoke, Joseph walked in obedience and took Mary as his wife.
Your “bad” situation may be difficult to walk through; however, if you follow God and His guidance found in His Word, the Bible, you will find the grace to walk through that difficult situation. Know that God will work it out for your good. Take this verse as your message from God - Romans 8:28 - All things work together for good to those who love the Lord and are the called according to His purposes.
Prayer: Dear God, give me the courage to be obedient to your Word in my “bad” situations and to remember that all things work together for good for your obedient children.
