IT IS WHAT IT IS

BY PASTOR CHARLES RICKS, JR.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” — John 1:14 (NKJV)

Today is December 25. Whether you recognize the traditional holiday of Christmas or not, the fact remains that the calendar marks today as the twenty-fifth of December. Dates are intrinsic to the calendar, and when someone wants to get on our calendar, we immediately look at a date to confirm availability. Just like water is wet, the sky is blue, and the sun is hot, each element is intrinsically tied to the very nature of what it is. It is irrelevant whether we like the intrinsic quality, because it is what it is.

Dr. Tony Evans explained it this way, “God is glorious intrinsically. When you recognize it, He’s glorious. When you don’t recognize it, He’s glorious. When you like it, He’s glorious. When you don’t like it, He’s glorious because that’s just who He is.”

Through Jesus, the very Word of God became flesh and came to live among us. We recognize His Glory as the One and Only Son of God, because that’s exactly who He is.

If you are struggling to believe that Jesus is really who God’s Word says He is, today - Christmas Day - is a great day to be re-introduced to the Christ of Christmas. In the first chapter of John, he wasn’t so much talking about a Christmas story as he was about a fulfillment of a promise made to us. That promise is Jesus, the Glorious Son of God. Even though this may be beyond our human comprehension, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s true. May I reintroduce the Christ of Christmas to you? His name is Jesus. Merry Christmas!

Prayer: Dear Father, we thank You for the gift of Jesus that You gave to all mankind. You sent Him to earth to redeem man back to You. May this Christmas season serve as a fresh start to refocus our attention on Jesus, the Christ of Christmas. Amen.
